ADT FILES SUIT AGAINST CHINESE COMPANY AND ITS DISTRIBUTOR

Lawsuit Involves Alleged Infringement of Sensormatic Acousto-Magnetic (AM) Anti-Theft Labels

Boca Raton, Fla. – March 31, 2009 – ADT Security Services, the leading provider of Sensormatic® Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) solutions, announced today that it has filed a lawsuit for patent infringement of Sensormatic EAS labels in China against both Ningbo Signatronics Technologies, Ltd. (“Ningbo Signatronics”) and their distributor, Foshan Shunde Hongding Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (“Hongding”).

After analyzing samples of their 58 kHz labels, ADT filed suit in Foshan Intermediate Court in Guangdong Province, China against both Ningbo Signatronics and Hongding. The lawsuit asserts that their label infringes a Sensormatic patent on anti-theft Ultra•Max® Acousto-Magnetic (AM) technology. The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction prohibiting them from selling the label.

“After careful consideration, we filed this suit to protect the intellectual property in our Ultra•Max AM technologies, which is the result of our extensive investment in their research and development,” said Scott Clements, president of Sensormatic Retail Solutions.  “We feel strongly that we will be successful. Protecting our intellectual property is central to our ability to continue investing in innovative solutions that help retailers deter theft and improve profitability.”
